Ream and run at 6 years; the power of the brush

A 60 year old physician presented to us with a painful stiff shoulder and these films.

Because of his desired activity levels, he wished to avoid the polyethylene glenoid component used in a conventional total shoulder; therefore he elected a ream and run procedure. After surgery he used his
electric toothbrush to time his 2 minute stretches several times per day.. Today he returned for followup 6 years after his ream and run with a comfortable, functional shoulder and excellent motion.

His x-rays at 6 years after surgery show secure fixation of his impaction grafted humeral prosthesis and a regenerated stable bearing surface on his glenoid.

His electric toothbrush kept his teeth and his shoulder happy.
